Our workshop only uses old timber, brought in from all over China. Usually between 100 and 200 years old, it has what the Chinese describe as “very good temper”, unlike new timber which changes over time. Everything used in our furniture should be able to last another 100 years!
We travels to China to personally select each piece and work closely with the woodworkers on any restoration or adjustments. We pay fair prices for each piece so that the workshop can pay the craftsmen and women decent wages, including holiday leave and superannuation. Some of the woodworkers have come from up to 2,000km away. They have passion for their work, and pay great attention to detail. In return, we respect their need for time to give each piece their individual attention and finish it to their own - and our - high standards.
